The Founding of Thinkism
September 12, 2001

The World is Changing

The events of September 11, 2001 has brought profound change to the world around us. Society is changing rapidly. It will never go back to the way it once was.  We are living on the brink of a world metamorphosis. Individual freedoms are being suppressed in the name of security, weather patterns are changing all over the world due to human manipulation of nature, we are in the shadow of a world war, there is a financial meltdown of stock markets, the rise of corporate monopolies and bullies, numerous species of life are facing extinction, crime is at a all time high, numerous people in war torn countries are facing starvation everyday, the ocean is being depleted of its resources, there is instability everywhere, and etc.

All this should produce powerful art! What do we get, nice flower paintings, houses, and wall decorations. Most artists are stuck in their old school concepts of art.

The Thinkism Art Movement was founded on September 12, 2001 by David Kam to change the perception of art as mere wall decorations; this even applies to meaningless conceptual art. David wants art to become a rich source of food to enrich the mind, and to feed the soul. Thinkism art explores man's (woman's) relationship to the world, the world's relationship to man (woman), and man's (woman's) relationship to each other. You can say, that Thinkism Art Movement is mainly about bringing a higher social consciousness to "relationships".

We hope that our art movement can inspire the viewer to think about making positive changes in their life, and in society. Art can be meaningful beyond words, beyond culture, and language. David Kam feels there is a certain responsibility for artists to create works of art that shed new light on various social issues, philosophical issues, political issues, environmental issues, psychological issues, religious issues, and other complex matters.

Art in Civilizations

The progress of civilization can always be traced back to the progress of art. The richer the arts, the more fully develop the civilization becomes. Now, we are in the mist of an information revolution. With the explosive growth of the Internet, the world has become a smaller place. The exchange of ideas, pictures, sound, and words are growing at a phenomenal pace. Often the transmission of information is almost instantaneous. We  can now see world events, such as planes of September 11, 2001 crashing before our very eyes. It eerily looked like a Hollywood action movie.

David Kam, the founder of Thinkism believes fine arts have not kept up with social change. Most people view fine arts as mere decorations on a wall, not as a reflection of the world around them. Like Pablo's dog, most artists only follow tradition. The world is now changing at the speed of light; art has to keep up with changing times. Some people may view Thinkism art as “protest art” or “Freudian art”, however, the issues runs deeper. The Thinkism art movement is the fused with other disciplines. Fragments of wisdom from great thinkers such as Aristotle, Freud, Einstein...etc. may be reflected in the Thinkism artworks. Thinkism invokes the viewer to think about different social issues, philosophical issues, political issues, environmental issues, psychological issues, religious issues, and other complex matters in a different light.

How Thinkism Was Founded?

Thinkism art was founded by David Kam to free the minds of the world from the bondage of outdated ideas, and to find a deeper meaning in life. Whether you are a politician, a lawyer, a banker, a philosopher, a student, a housewife, an anthropologist, a pharmacist or whatever your occupation, David believes that you can be set free.

Paintings and art can be more than decorations on a wall; art can be a beacon of light to brighten up your mind, to guide your soul, and much more. Art is not just for the patrons of a museum. Thinkism art is for everyone to enjoy, and enjoy it you will.

Thinkism art is not for the dead, but for the living, so take a breathe of fresh air and say how good it is to be alive. Thinkism art is nothing like still life, because your mind, and soul is never still.
Thinkism art is not about the past, but about the present, and things to come. Thinkism art invites you to think about the way you are living now, and about the way you want to live in the future. So after viewing Thinkism art, take a walk in the park, and enjoy your newfound freedom.

Thinkism art was inspired by setbacks in David's life. This caused him to search for a deeper meaning about life. Tragedies that affected him deeply, include his personal financial set-back, the death of his father, the death of his God sister's whole family in a plane crash, and world events, such as 911 (planes crashing into the World Trade Center). Other events that affected David
deeply included a  visit to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. exhibition in Atlanta, Georgia. A particular quote was burnt into the corners of his mind:
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.   Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
What impressed David was the idea that an ordinary person can become a catalyst for positive social change. This was the foundation of David's idea that art itself can empower positive social change. The creation of the Thinkism art movement is to use art to empower individuals to think about their own life in relationship to themselves, toward others, and towards the world. Hopefully this examination will help the viewer work towards positive changes with themselves, towards others, towards the environment, and towards society.

David's first piece of Thinkism art, is called "I Love America". It is a very powerful historical piece of art created between September 12, 2001 to September 15, 2001, due to the 911 tragedy. "I Love America" is a celebration of the strength of the American people's spirit in the face of disaster.

David's second painting is called "Let Love Grow". His goal of "Let Love Grow" was to create a painting that is easy for people to understand at any age. David gets bolder with each piece of artwork. He sometimes incorporates sight, sound, smell, touch, and intuition, in order to stimulate the different senses of the viewer.
This is the birth of Thinkism. Art that makes you think! David hopes Thinkism art will open up your heart, minds, and soul. To set your free. Be free.
